HPNET 2018-19 – Result, Cutoff and Counselling, Admission

HPNET is an abbreviation for Himachal Pradesh National Law University Entrance Test (HP-NLET) is a National level entrance examination for law students conducted by the Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU). It is organized for admission in five-year integrated undergraduate law courses and two-year postgraduate law courses in the state law colleges which are affiliated with this. HPNET provides admission in BA LLB and BBA LLB courses or post graduate law programs including LLM from the NLU of Himachal Pradesh.  This exam is commonly known as HPNET. The HPNET Law will be conducted in the third week of May 2018.

The admission to law colleges of India can be taken by qualifying HPNET. There are various law colleges in the state offering various LLB seats for the undergraduates and LLM seats for postgraduates of HPNET. The entrance exam that is HPNET Law will be conducted in offline mode. The Instructions, Rules, and regulations are decided by the Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU) and in compliance with all the rules and regulations of HPNET Law authorities and the relevant Authorities orders in place.

There are certain criteria that the candidate needs to satisfy even after passing the examination HPNET. These are Eligibility Criteria and set as per the rules of government in HPNET and is the way to admission in LLB courses of the affiliated colleges in India.

HPNET Admission conducts entrance based admission to LLB and LLM courses. The admissions to post graduate law colleges was taken on the basis of HPNET earlier. Candidates seeking admissions in the undergraduate and postgraduate law programs across the participating Indian law schools were needed to apply for HPNET India 2018 in the third week of May 2018 (Note that this date is tentative).

HPNET Admit Card

The admit card for HPNET is provided online to the candidates appearing for the HPNET. The admit card is accessed by the candidates on the HPNET portal. The admit card for UG as well as PG was issued via online mode from the first week of May 2018. The admit card for HPNET is issued by Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU) that is conducting authorities of HPNET.

The candidates can download the admit card from the official website of the HPNET. The admit card will not be sent via post to any of the appearing candidates. The admit card of HPNET will contain following details like candidates name, date of birth, photo, signature, exam center and roll number. This information of the candidate will be based on the applicant’s HPNET application form. In case any candidate finds any mistake in their HPNET admit card 2018 details including their names and date of birth, they need to bring it to the notice of exam officials, immediately and get it verified or corrected by the authorities of HPNET.

The candidates are advised to take print out of the admit card and take this admit card with themselves on the exam center. HPNET Application forms

HPNET application form is available in online mode. The University appoints authorities to conduct the centralized online counseling for the academic session of HPNET 2018-19. All the applicants are required to fill the form in order to appear for HPNET courses. HPNET exam or application form is released by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Government of Maharashtra. Once the candidate has registered for the law school admission test, a confirmation email will be sent to his/her registered mail account.

The candidates filling the application form should make sure that they are filling the correct information otherwise they will not be allowed to sit for the examination. There are certain documents that are required during HPNET application form filling. HPNET Application fees

Once the candidate is done with filling the form online the next step is to pay the application fees.  To complete their HPNET Counselling registration, candidates need to sign the counseling register and pay a non-refundable processing fee of some specific amount.  Different categories have fees for the application form of HPNET.

 The payment can be done through net banking and various other options: Debit Card/ Demand Draft/ Bankers Cheque/ Pay Order. The payment mode is only online and Online payment can be done through Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card. The fees once paid by the candidate will not be refunded in any case.

HPNET 2018 Eligibility Criteria

There is certain rules or conditions set by the official authority of the HPNET authorities which an applicant needs to satisfy to appear for the HPNET. The applicants can look for all the eligibility criteria one needs to satisfy and should contain all the documents proving that applicants satisfying those criteria.

Here are some of the criteria which an applicant should satisfy:

  • According to the HPNET eligibility criteria, candidates applying for BA/BBA LLB (Hons.) should have passed 10+2 or equivalent board examination.
  • In one attempt with 50% marks (45% for SC/ST), and those applying for LLM postgraduate law program should possess an LL.B degree obtained with 55% aggregate marks.

Reservation for HPNET

The reservation for the candidates who are from different categories has different rules set by HPNET. The rules and regulations are defined by the HPNET. All the candidates must strictly follow the rules defined by the HPNET for UG or PG courses.


BPL (SC/ST category)

NOTE: The candidate should note that the in-case of any discrepancy the candidate’s admission will be canceled and the seat will not be given to the candidate instead will be allotted to any other candidate.

HPNET Result

HPNET Result 2018 for LLB courses.  The result will be announced online on the official portal of HPNET by Himachal Pradesh NLU. The result for HPNET is declared in the first week of June 2018. The result will consist of the merit list on the basis of marks of the candidates. The candidates will be called on the basis of merit list for the counseling. The HPNET authority releases result for different courses provided by the university. The Result of HPNET has been announced by Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management(GITAM). The test scores and result of Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management will be reported on a percentile basis. As per HPNET India 2018 result, each test-takers’ performance will be compared to others of candidates group, classified as the five-year integrated undergraduate and two-year post graduate.

The correct number of questions answered by the candidate will decide the result. There will be a total of 120 questions and candidate will be able to tick maximum correct out of it. Applicants should download the result and should preserve the score till the admission procedure is complete for further use in HPNET.

HPNET Counselling

The applicants scored marks, which are above the cutoff, are eligible for the admission procedure in the HPNET and after that counseling procedure starts. The list will be released for the candidates who get selected for the admission procedure through a Particular defined procedure. The counseling will be conducted via offline mode. The counseling for HPNET is conducted by Procedure defined by Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU).

 All the candidates will be assigned a center for the counseling process and candidates have to report to their respective center and on the given date by the authorities of HPNET. Candidates will also have to present a list of official documents for verification and xerox copies of the same for submission. Candidates should ensure they submit only the correct information at the time of HPNETCounselling process as it will be used for their seat verification.

The counseling is done on the basis of rank provided to the candidate. The counseling will be on the basis of the candidate’s rank. When the candidates are called for the counseling procedure the candidates have to take original documents with them. The documents will go through the verification process by the authorities. There will be numerous seats available for the LLB counseling to be filled by the candidates by clearing HPNET entrance examination.

After the successful tests and verification, the candidate can appear for the admission in the HPNET. It is important for the candidate to be present physically for the counseling and if the candidates fail to be present on the day of the counseling than the candidate’s seat will be canceled. Nowadays as provided by the online option the candidate can choose and fill their preferences of colleges and courses online in the official website of HPNET.

The seats are allotted purely on the basis of marks secured in the entrance exam and merit list prepared on that marks. The HPNET counseling will be done in offline mode only.

HPNET Exam Pattern

 Different academic courses have different exam pattern offered by the Institute. The exam HPNET conducted by Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management will announce the exam pattern for their own Institute differently. The undergraduate entrance exam will be based on OMR examination. The exam will be offline that is it will be a pen paper based examination. There will be the total of 120 questions which will be multiple choice questions (objective based). There will be a 30 marks essay exam also. The HPNET Examination will be standard for the entrance examination. The candidate will be awarded 1 marks for the correct answer and there will be NO negative marking.
    • Exam Date: Examination for 3-years LL.B. program was held on the third week of May 2018 and for 5-years LL.B. program, the examination was conducted in the month of  May 2018.
    • Exam Mode: The examination was organized in online mode (computer based test).
    • Question Paper Type: The question paper contained objective type questions with four options.
    • Paper Language: The question paper was asked in English and Marathi language.
    • Sections: The question paper was comprised of different sections such as Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning, General Knowledge with Current Affairs, Logical and Analytical Reasoning, English and Mathematical Aptitude.
    • Number of Questions: Total 120 questions was asked in the examination of 1 mark each.
    • Negative Marking: There is no negative marking in this exam.

HPNET Syllabus

 The official website will consist of the detailed syllabus for HPNET The University will release notification for candidates appearing for the LLB courses that are the official syllabus. The Institute will release the updated syllabus as soon as released by the officials of HPNET Subjects of HPNET are – Current affairs, General knowledge, Comprehension, English, Legal aptitude and Logical reasoning.
  • English – The section consists of questions focusing various areas including Vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, analogies etc.), Proficiency (idioms and phrases, one word substitution, improvement and rearrangement of sentences, fill in the blanks etc.), English usage errors (common errors, spotting errors in sentence, inappropriate usage of words, spelling mistakes etc.) and English comprehension and passages.
  • General Knowledge with Current Affairs – The questions from this section include topics such as History (Ancient, Medieval and Modern), Geography, General Science, Economics, and Civics, besides issues from the last one year mentioned as Current Affairs. The objective of this section is to assess candidates’ knowledge of recent happenings and awareness of the world.
  • Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning – The section tests candidates’ interest towards study of law and thus comprises questions concerning legal aptitude and problem-solving abilities. The questions are framed with the help of legal prepositions and set of facts to which the said prepositions need to be applied. Some prepositions may not be true in the real sense and candidates need to assume fact of these prepositions (prepositional truth) and answer the questions drawing well-supported conclusions.
  • Logical and Analytical Reasoning – The section tests candidates’ ability to identify patterns, logical links and rectify illogical arguments. It includes questions relating to wide analogies, completing arguments, drawing well-supported conclusions, reasoning by analogies, applying principles and rules. Further, the objective of this section is to measure the ability to understand the structure, relationship and to draw logical conclusions about the structures. It includes reasoning from the set of statements and rules and principles that describes the relationship among persons, things or events.
  • Mathematical Aptitude – This section is to test the candidates’ interest in Mathematics which would broadly include numerical ability. The Mathematical questions will be of standard 10thincluding various topics like profit and loss, speed and distance, time and work, algebra, average, and Venn diagram.
